Do not miss the ASIAN’s (Asian Art Museum in San Francisco) exhibit SHANGHAI exploring through its art and artists the tumultuous history of one of the most cosmopolitan cities. The exhibit includes paintings by Shanghai artists, Shanghai Art Deco furniture and rugs, revolutionary posters, movie clips and contemporary installations. For me the most magical place in Shanghai is the BUND — an area in central Shanghai famous in the 19th century as an international treaty port (1842) where the most important international trading houses and consulates were located. Although the buildings and river bank have somewhat changed from the golden era of the 1920s, Shanghai is roaring back hosting EXPO 2010.
