Dear Austin Ayni Supporters,

We are writing to send you some exciting news!  Julie Bolz will be visiting Austin from February 8th through February 13th, 2011, and we are pleased to invite you to the second annual Ayni Benefit and Presentation by Julie and moderator Jennifer Fox on Thursday, February 10. The benefit will be held at the Schmidt-Jones Family Life Center in the shadows of the Texas Capitol. An invitation is attached. Please come out to support Julie and our Afghan schoolchildren. Please invite all of your friends and colleagues! Our 2011 benefit features:

  •  A Silent Auction with beautiful items from Afghanistan and from Austin. Julie will be bringing goods from the Afghan Bazaar and from Women’s projects for sale. We will have new note card designs for sale!
  • An art show featuring lovely drawings, translated messages and poetry sent by our Afghan students.
  • A special Presentation by Julie updating us on her work in Afghanistan and conveying many stories of hope resulting from the educational opportunities that this project provides.
  • Special guest, Jennifer Fox, who will tell us about her experiences mentoring a core group of talented Afghan civil servants through the “Fellowship for Afghanistan” program sponsored by the UN.
  • A reception with an opportunity to meet Julie and enjoy refreshments.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for your continued support. Thank you for your interest, your generous financial support and school supply donations, your volunteer hours and your caring for the children of Afghanistan. With your help, in 2010, Austin Ayni supporters:

  • Contributed to the completion of a new building to house a rural satellite teacher training center and boys’ high school plus travel funds to enable qualified teachers to travel to teach at these facilities.
  • Provided the first library and playground ever for our rural boys’ school.
  • Contributed to funding for a computer center for our large urban girls’ schools where 45 young women graduated this year and several went on to teacher’s college!  Also, Austin donations contributed thousands of dollars towards matching funds for a Paul G. Allen Foundation grant awarded last spring.
  • Sent thousands of pens, pencils and other supplies to contribute towards school supply gifts which will be given to the girls at our new Ayni School which will open in spring 2010, at the dedication of their school.
  •  Sent beautiful artwork, peace cards, a handmade kite and a lovely alphabet quilt and banner to several schools as cultural exchange gifts from the children of Austin.

Only through your help can Julie and her Ayni teammates accomplish this, so thank you for your support. We look forward to seeing you on February 10th in downtown Austin.  We will be sending you more news about Austin Ayni projects and especially about our February 10th event. Please print out our attached flyer and share it with all of your colleagues and friends! Please help us widen our circle!

THANK YOU! TASHAKOR!  The Austin Ayni Volunteer Team
