Books I would like to share

Books I would like to share, and books and auction catalogues I have for sale ——- so that I can buy more books!

If you are always spending money on books like I do  and are trying to get a good deal once in a while, here are some older exhibition catalogues that can now  be obtained at a discount.  The books are available from a variety of sellers including amazon.com.

THE TSARS AND THE EAST: GIFTS FROM TURKEY AND IRAN TO THE MOSCOW KREMLIN
This is the exhibition catalogue  for a wonderful  2009 exhibit at the Freer/Sackler Gallery/Smithsonian Institution. In addition to depicting the more than sixty examples of lavish tributes,  not seen outside Russia before, the catalogue explores the complex political and trade relations between Russia and its neighbors during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

FALNAMA: THE BOOK OF OMENS
Exhibition catalogue for the 2009 Sackler Gallery  show illustrating the art of divination in the Islamic world.  Falnama were exuberantly painted pictures created in Savafid Iran and Ottoman Turkey in the sixteenth and seventeeth centuries. Images and scholarly texts on the meaning of dreams, omens and divination are shown in the catalogue.

One of my absolute favorite exhibitions and catalogues –
ENCOMPASSING THE GLOBE: PORTUGAL AND THE WORLD IN THE 16TH AND 17TH CENTURIES
A global trading network established by Portuguese sailors resulting in treasures  gathered from international private collectors and museums with rare paintings, maps, sculptures, manuscripts and other wonders  from Portugal, Africa, Brazil, China, Japan and the Indian Ocean. This is a three volume catalogue with full color reproductions of each of approximately 250 items.
