JORDAN CREATES LARGEST ONLINE ANTIQUITIES DATABASE

The database will include every archeological site in the country and help preserve its treasures. It is hoped that such a base can prevent the type of looting that occurs in Iraq and could provide a model for Iraq. Experts say that this Middle Eastern Geodatabase for Antiquities is the first such countrywide system. Registering some 11,000 sites in the country, each site will show inventories and condition reports. Scholars and inspectors approved by Jordan’s Antiquities Department can update information for users to stay abreast and for authorities to keep track of inventories.

Petra anyone?
