ENLIGHTENED WAYS: THE MANY STREAMS OF BUDDHIST ART IN THAILAND

1500 YEARS OF BUDDHIST ART IN THAILAND
November 30, 2012 to April 17, 2013

ASIAN CIVILISATIONS MUSEUM, SINGAPORE
This most interesting museum and one of the newer museums in the region, shows the cultures of the different groups in Singapore originating in China, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Western Asia.
Whoever has wandered through Bangkok and looked at the many spirit houses with images of Ganesh, Brahma and Buddha must have realized the close relationship between Buddhism, Hinduism and spirit worship. This exhibit brings together over one hundred objects from different museums in Thailand (many shown for the first time outside Thailand) and includes sculptural pieces, paintings, furniture, jewelry, paintings, manuscripts.
Look at this carving of intertwined naga, made of lacquered  and gilded wood with mirrored glass from Hariphunchai National Museum in Lamphun measuring 179 cm by 182 cm. Haribunjaya was a Mon Kingdom in what is now northern Thailand.
